President's Welcome Major Kevin Waring Welcome to the website of the 51st Battalion, Far North Queensland Regiment Association. This sees a great step forward for the Association and will provide a far more effective way of keeping Association members informed of upcoming events and what the Battalion is doing at the moment. The Association remains a viable entity and we should seek to support four main events each year, Battalion Birthday, ANZAC Day, Porton Day, and the AGM. I would personally like see a stronger show of support from members at the main Cairns parade. And I will be seeking your support in order to achieve this. The members of the Association always remain part of the Battalion family and are always welcome at Porton Barracks. Association members are a key part of the Commanding Officer’s Community Engagement and can still play a role in the Battalions day to day operations. As we draw our soldiers from our local communities, we should always seek to remind the community as a whole of what have done and are doing. I would like to thank all members for their vote of confidence in electing me to the role of President. In the coming months my first priority will be to improve communication and to do this, the committee and I will need member support. Simply, keep us informed of your current address and more importantly, your email address. An initiative I intend to put in place is a regular quarterly or half yearly newsletter in both hard and soft copy. Ultimately I would see the majority of the communications being via email but this will take time to fully implement. Also we will seek to have our member records saved on line so in the coming months we will be seeking information from all our members on their service history. This is an important part of our history and we need to preserve it before it is lost to us for ever. In closing I look forward to members suggestions and views and welcome your input so we can make the association a stronger organisation in the years to come. Kevin Waring |
