Well, well I feel like I have stepped back in time. I joined up at 51st Battalion FNQR at the old Porton Depot in Westcourt, QLD on 10 APR 1990. I left as SIG Seymour on 18 MAY 1998 to take up my first FTS in Townsville. This is a great site how come it's not on Facebook lol? Definately will become a member and will circulate this website to my ex 51 FNQR contacts. Cheers Wens X

Browsing through the site brings back some memories, my first of many units. I've been a grunt, drop short, grunt, sig and back to dropshort, (misses was a pusser in the pnf if that helps explain - love a new posting heheh) but I will always say I was a proud member of the 51st. "golden bars on our epilets, We are men of Australia's best, We fight hard, unite like one, We are men of the fifty one" To the tune of "green berets", but you know that...

I feel so lucky to have found this website. My grandfather was David Saker (who passed away a few years ago), who I unfortunately don't know much about military history wise, other than he was in the 31st/51st and fought at Tsimba Ridge. I've always wanted to know more - and have always wanted to know who was there with him. Thank you very much. And please, if anybody knows anything about David, could they tell me please? It would be really wonderful to know!

Dear Carol, Thank you very much for your post and kind words. The notion of Battalion as 'family' is very important to all of us who've served. You, your father and your relatives are all a very important part of that family and will forever be so. If you have any pictures of your father in uniform I would be very happy to post it/them on the website. All the very best, BJ Price webmaster@51fnqra.com

My Dad, Arthur Gray, served with the 31st/51st in Merauke, Dutch New Guinea, Bougainville, Solomon Islands and at the battle for Tsimba Ridge. He attended the reunions until just before his death in 2002. His days with the battalion were of great importance to him and he cherished the memories all of his life. Thanks for the web site, I really appreciate it. Carol Gray

Well Done BJ on an excellent web site that will draw the older serving soldiers closer to those still serving today. The Battalion appreciates the support of its past Members and, in recognition of this, the 51st Battalion Memorial Walk was opened by BRIG George Mansford (retd) on 27 Nov 2009 next to the Battalion HQ at Porton Barracks. There is still much work to do to extend the walk and recognise the Battalion's significant achievements, in this regard the Battalion will draw on the Association Members to identify the key events worthy of recognition throughout the Battalion's history. I encourage all past members to make recommendations to the Association Committee on what significant events must/should be recognised in WW1, WW2, National Service, IRC, RQR, RFSU etc. For each event identified a tree will be planted along the walk and a plaque placed at the base explaining the event. To all past members you should be proud of the current generation of soldier. Once again well done BJ for giving us all the means to communicate openly on our history and our future. Regards, Brendan Cox

Excellent Work on the Site. Wish I'd found it earlier. Still trying to find the "join" button. Is there a group in Brisvegas?
