Dear Carol,
Thank you very much for your post and kind words.
The notion of Battalion as 'family' is very important to all of us who've served.
You, your father and your relatives are all a very important part of that family and will forever be so.
If you have any pictures of your father in uniform I would be very happy to post it/them on the website.
All the very best,
BJ Price

My Dad, Arthur Gray, served with the 31st/51st in Merauke, Dutch New Guinea, Bougainville, Solomon Islands and at the battle for Tsimba Ridge. He attended the reunions until just before his death in 2002. His days with the battalion were of great importance to him and he cherished the memories all of his life.
Thanks for the web site, I really appreciate it.
Carol Gray

Well Done BJ on an excellent web site that will draw the older serving soldiers closer to those still serving today. The Battalion appreciates the support of its past Members and, in recognition of this, the 51st Battalion Memorial Walk was opened by BRIG George Mansford (retd) on 27 Nov 2009 next to the Battalion HQ at Porton Barracks. There is still much work to do to extend the walk and recognise the Battalion's significant achievements, in this regard the Battalion will draw on the Association Members to identify the key events worthy of recognition throughout the Battalion's history.

I encourage all past members to make recommendations to the Association Committee on what significant events must/should be recognised in WW1, WW2, National Service, IRC, RQR, RFSU etc. For each event identified a tree will be planted along the walk and a plaque placed at the base explaining the event.

To all past members you should be proud of the current generation of soldier.

Once again well done BJ for giving us all the means to communicate openly on our history and our future.

Regards,
Brendan Cox

I am trying to track down the records of James Allen who was born in seymour in victoria. moved to Taranna in Tasmania when he was a boy. He and three brothers joined thee army during WW1. his three brothers were killed in action and I have their war records. It appears that James may have joined in NZ. his mother wrote to the War Office when his brothers were killed and James was sent home.
He died in Bairnsdale in Victoria in 1966 and is buried there.
There is no record of his service number and I have contacted the AIF but they cannot help me.

Can anyone help. Peter Wilson

In researching my family tree, I was keen to learn more about my father's, Cpl Harry Wainrib VX93320, military service. When I found the 51st Battalion's website, I was surprised to see a photo of my father being "patched up" at an aid station after being wounded at Tsimba Ridge, Bouganville Island.
If anyone has any information that may be of interest to me regarding my father, my email address is glennbw@iprimus.com.au.

Regards

Glenn Wainrib
